Two library databases in particular provide easy ways to track down company and industry information: Business Source Complete and Gale Business Insights. You will need to know the NAICS and SIC code to start industry research in Business Source Complete. Your industry may have more than one NAICS or SIC code. If you don't know the NAICS or SIC code, use the NAICS and SIC code lookup.

To access this information in Business Source Complete:

  • Click Subject Guides on the library home page, and select the Business, Management & Economics guide.
  • Select Business Source Complete from the list of databases.
  • For company information, click Company Information in the blue bar across the top of the page.
  • Next to the field for Company Name, type the name of the company you are researching, and click Search.
  • Select the specific entity you are researching from the results list under Company Name.
  • For industry information, click Advanced Search under the basic search box on the main Business Source Complete page.
  • In the advanced search field that appears, type your NAICS code or description. To the right of that field, change Select a Field to IC NAICS Code or Description using the pull-down menu.
  • Below the search fields, look for the category Publication Type. Select Industry Profile from the options listed, and click Search.

To access this information in Gale Business Insights:

  • Click Subject Guides on the library home page, and select the Business, Management & Economics guide.
  • Select Gale Business Insights from the list of databases.
  • Click Advanced Search under the basic search box.
  • Across the top, select either Companies or Industries.
  • If you selected Companies, you can scroll through the alphabetical list, or use the search box provided to locate a specific company.
  • If you selected Industries, you can expand the menus under each broad industry listing until you have found the specific part of that industry you wish to research.

For more in-depth search options, visit the "Company, Industry..." tab within the Business, Management & Economics subject guide.
