In addition to our subscription database access to The Chronicle of Higher Education, our library now has a site-license subscription to the The Chronicle that provides:

  • Unlimited access to The Chronicle's content, daily news, and data, anytime and anywhere.
  • Special issues such as The Almanac of Higher Education and The Trends Report, as well as searchable access to articles and essays dating back to 1989.
  • Access to Chronicle.com, whether on or off campus, from any device.

Students, faculty, and staff may create a free account using their @sunyempire.edu email address, which syncs with SUNY Empire's site license.

To create your account:

  • Go to Chronicle.com, and click on the “Sign In” link at the top, right-hand side of the page.
  • Click on the “Sign Up” link to create a free account, and be sure to use your @sunyempire.edu email address.
  • Activate your account by confirming your email address in the email received at your @sunyempire.edu email inbox.
  • Log in to your account when prompted.

Once your account has been created, you can use the account profile icon in the upper-right corner of Chronicle.com to set your profile preferences, including your role at the university, special areas of interest, and which newsletters and reports you would like to receive via your @sunyempire.edu email account.

If you have been paying for your own subscription, you can cancel that by logging into your account, navigating to the profile in the upper right corner, and clicking on “Subscriptions”. You may need to log out and then log back in, but your account using your @sunyempire.edu email addresses should automatically link to the site license.

If you already have a free subscription with your @sunyempire.edu email address, these should also automatically link to the library-paid site license. Again, you may need to log out and log back in in order to successfully link the account.
