In many of our multidisciplinary databases, you can search specifically for reviews. To do this:

  • Click Article Databases on the library home page, and choose the database you wish to use.
  • In the database, click the Advanced Search option under the basic search bar, and use the menus there to select Review(s) from the document or content type limiters.
  • Enter your keywords, and search.

If you're looking for scholarly film criticism, remember to click the option for Scholarly/Peer Reviewed only. Most film/book reviews are not scholarly, but scholarly film/literary criticism does exist.

Suggested databases to search include:

  • JSTOR
  • Academic Search Complete
  • Academic OneFile
  • MasterFILE Premier
  • Communication & Mass Media Complete
  • Literature Resource Center

If you are looking for the kinds of generic movie reviews that are in newspapers, try RottenTomatoes.com. They gather reviews from dozens of newspapers and magazines. You can search by movie, actor, or critic.

BoxOfficeMojo provides box office receipts and rankings.

Internet Movie Database (IMDb) provides information on each movie's release date, director, production company, cast list, and more.
