Finding Textbooks & Course Reserves in the SUNY Empire Online Library

If your instructor has assigned readings listed as course reserves available through our library, you will find them in our Course Reserves guide, also located at the Textbooks & Course Reserves link on the library home page. The guide is searchable by title of the assigned reading, course code, instructor name, and course name.

If your assigned reading is not listed in our the Course Reserves guide, try searching via OneSearch on the library homepage to see if we have the title--and the specific edition, for ebooks--your instructor has assigned.

Faculty members wishing to add to the library's Course Reserves guide should email librarian@sunyempire.edu.

Finding Textbooks Elsewhere

Most textbooks and reading packets assigned in your courses are made available through the Empire State University bookstore.

Used textbooks can often be obtained from online book sellers at a lower price. Please keep in mind that you need to get the edition that was assigned because page numbers, chapters, and supplemental materials often change drastically between editions. Use the ISBN to find the right edition.

If you cannot afford your textbooks, inform your course instructor or mentor right away.

You may also be able to borrow the edition you need from a SUNY, CUNY, or NY community college library near you via SUNY's open access arrangement.

Search WorldCat.org to see if other libraries near you have the correct title and edition on their shelves. You may be able to borrow these if that library offers community borrowing privileges. Check with their staff.
